What Does Cocktail Attire Mean For Party Dresses?

It is the season of the year when the invitations start rolling out for all of the events happening during the socializing summer months. Most of the time, invitations are sent out with a dress code instruction. Depending on the event, you can see anything from "black tie affair " to "business casual" to "cocktail attire" to "black tie optional". And these are just a few of the instructions you might see. If you are not accustomed to events of this nature, you might be confused by these instructions. Even if you are accustomed to these sorts of events, you can still be left with wondering what does cocktail attire mean, and what does black tie optional mean, and what kind of Party Dresses should I even be considering? If you find yourself frequently confused by invitation dress code instructions, read here to get the inside scoop on what messages like "cocktail attire" really mean.
For starters, before you even start thinking about where to buy your sexy party dresses for this year's social calendar, it never hurts to ask the host what the dress code instructions mean. You will find that many people say the same thing, but mean different things. Business casual attire for a mom and pop stationary store event for example will be much different than business casual event for a Fortune 500 company. Wearing the wrong party dresses to either of these events can be downright mortifying. But most of the time some of these instructions like black tie and casual are fairly straightforward. It is the instruction of "cocktail attire" that leaves the most confusion when it comes to party dresses.
Cocktail attire for women generally refers to party dresses that are neither too formal or too casual. This is an occasion where you get to dress up a little bit, without having to break out the whole nine in party dresses preparation. A simple dress with a little bit of blinged out texture paired with some sexy heels and a stunning clutch will be all you need for cocktail attire. Generally speaking cocktail party dresses are shorter than dresses you would wear for a black tie event, so hemlines that fall at the knee or even shorter are perfectly acceptable. As well, most cocktail party dresses for this season have less texture than their formal counterparts, offering a sleek and sexy silhouette for the cocktail event in question.
Cocktail attire refers to the time of day the event will be held, cocktail hour. This hour typically falls right before the dinner hour, and can be anywhere from 4 PM in the late afternoon to 8 PM in the evening. As such, full formal evening wear is not required, but a less formal but still dressy look is all you need when selecting cocktail party dresses for your next cocktail attire event.
In today's day and age, instructions for dress code on your invitations are less rigid than they have been in era's gone by. If ever in doubt on what party dresses would be suitable for your occasion, call the host and simply ask. Your respect in meeting their wishes will flatter and honor them, and will ensure you aren't fretting the night of your event over whether or not the club party dresses make you over or under dressed.

Nail Art How-To: Pretty Floral Manicure

1. Paint the base. Paint your nails with a bright base color, like China Glaze "Keepin' It Teal." Add a top coat, and allow them to dry completely.

2. Prepare your palette. Using a bright pink and a pale pink, drop a circle of the brighter polish and two circles of of the pale pink onto a white piece of paper.

3. Paint the flowers. Dab a dotting tool into your bright pink and swirl some of the color into one of your light pink circles. Using your tool, begin applying the mixed polish onto your nail in circular motions. If you need more color, dab some of the bright and pale pink on your nails and continue to swirl them together until you create the illusion of flower petals. Create two flowers on each nail and just one on the top left-hand corner of your accent nail.

4. Decorate your accent finger. Create small dots using a bright yellow polish on your accent finger, surrounding the flower. Allow your nails to dry completely, then add a top coat.

Now, go out and show everyone your super-cute floral mani!

Beauty treatment gone bad? Suffer in silence and you'll just end up a sucker. Here's how to deal with the six trickiest characters at the salon or spa.
1. The Toe-Tapper
OPI Vampsterdam or Essie Mink Muffs? With a testy nail tech breathing down your neck, you feel pressured to grab a trendy green and convince yourself you love it. (You hate it.)
What to Say: Nothing. Stay strong, and take your sweet time, says Jin Soon Choi, owner of Jin Soon Hand and Foot Spas. "Problems start when you rush," says Soon. Our regret-proof method: Go in with bare nails, and test out a few shades before the mani begins. If you're chronically indecisive, take a BYOP approach — you'll save yourself stress and leave with a mani you love.
2. The Chatty Cathy
As soon as the lights go down, this facialist or masseuse wants to know your life story.
What to Say: At the first sign of convo: "Just a warning — I may fall asleep. I've been so looking forward to some quiet time." Or if you need to break out the big guns, pull the syndrome card — say you have a migraine.
3. The Novice
Has this person actually done this before? You could give yourself a better mani/wax/dye job — for free!
What to Say: "Sorry, but I'm in a rush. Is there someone who can do this faster?" says Cindy Barshop, founder of Completely Bare spas. Denied? Tell a manager the treatment feels a little off. If it's botched, demand a refund.
4. The Spray-Tanning Terror
From the details (like lotioning up your hands and feet) to the big stuff (creating giant streaks!), this tanner's asleep at the wheel.
What to Say: It's hard to be assertive when you're standing naked in a shower cap, so disguise criticism as breezy conversation. "Say, 'Do you think we should blend that out?' or 'Hey, do you think this looks too dark?'" says spray-tan pro Anna Stankiewicz. Questions are less intimidating than demands and allow the tech to remain in control.
5. The Misinterpreter
You said "long layers" but left with The Rachel.
What to Say: First, try not to freak, then ask for a fix. "A good stylist will do anything to correct the damage," says celeb colorist Rita Hazan. If the solution requires a total overhaul, don't leave without a credit slip.
6. The Product Pusher
Your hair's not even dry and your stylist has $50 worth of stuff waiting at the counter.
What to Say: "Thanks, but I love what I'm currently using." Or say it's not in your budget — people get funny about money.
To Cry or Not to Cry?
Save the tears (if possible) — crying can cause a scene and typically makes the other person super defensive, notes Hazan. If you feel a meltdown coming on, our experts recommend taking the manager to a private area to resolve the issue ... and to be direct about a refund (if you want one). E-mail can also be effective. "When I get complaints, I always take care of it," says Choi. And if all else fails, there's always Yelp (or Twitter)!

5 Bag Styles Every Girl Should Have

The easiest way to add a pop of colour to your outfit and to show off your personality is with statement accessories. This season we’ve picked our top 5  favourite bag styles every girl should have.

1. Large Tote Bag

What better way to get attention than with an oversized tote bag? Tote bags are fantastic accessories because they are versatile, sturdy (it can hold everything and anything) and just downright stylish.
The tote is not a new design, in fact they’ve been around since the early 1900s but designers have continued to make the design more appealing to the masses, by offering a diverse range of styles that range from the classic totes: such as Michael Kors’s large textured leather Hamilton bag, to eye-embellished leather totes of Kenzo.
When it comes to totes, there’s a style that appeals to every women and thus the tote has integrated itself into fashion as one of the staple accessories for every woman’s wardrobe. Oh! and size does indeed matter. Especially when it comes to fitting in all your daily essentials!

2. Medium Tote

If the large totes are getting a little too much to handle then the medium tote is just the right size for everyday use.  Once again we love the versatility of the tote bag and they come in a range of different materials, pockets, zippers and finishes. And while mini bags and oversized bags are having their moment, we can always rely on the trusty and practical medium tote design.
Once again, Michael Kors excels at making good quality, simplistic yet classic bags such as his Jet Set Travel medium textured-leather tote. While designers such as Phillip Lim have chosen to add more finishing touches to his bag with zippers, contrasting colours and buckles, as seen in the Pashli medium leather trapeze bag.

3. Clutch Bags
Clutch bags have been enjoying popularity for a few seasons already and the reason why they are still so popular is really quite simple: they are beautifully elegant and add a sophisticated and feminine touch to any outfit. The Jérôme Dreyfuss’s ‘Bobi’ bag serves to reinforce that statement as it offers it’s wearer a sleek and chic design complete in a supple pale-peach textured-leather.
While clutch bags can add elegance to our outfits, they can also add edge and personality. Charlotte Olympia has proven this with two of her funky clutch creations that are anything but boring. Her designs Year of the Monkey Pandora Perspex Clutch and her 1950′s inspired Varsity Appliquéd Suede Pouch both demand attention with their bold colours and unique designs.

4. Backpack Trend

We’re transported back to school with the backpack trend, but this design is no longer just a back-to-school staple. Backpacks have gone through an extreme makeover to leave us with a design that is not only practical but also super trendy!

5. Mini Bag

Designers have shown just how creative they can be when they chose to downsize handbags and produce the ultimate mini-me trend. The mini bag trend has quickly caught on and we’ve spotted more than one fashion icon sporting these cute and chic bags.
What makes the mini bag trend so great is that they never get in the way, (especially with the extra-long straps) yet they have just enough space for us to store all our valuables. And they come in so many different styles and shapes!

How To Wear Casual Loose Fit Pastels | Resort 2015 Trend

Casual loose pastels first made their major appearance at the spring fashion weeks last year, but if the Resort/15 collections are anything to go by, the rein of pastel is set to continue. From the dusty and rose pinks of Jill Stuart, DKNY and Bone, the minty greens at Sportmax and Tibi, the safari neutrals of Giorgio Armani and the creamy whites of Reed Krakoff, there’s a pastel macaroon hue for everyone.

Have you always thought pastel colors are not for you? Think again. Due to the sheer variety of shades, anyone can sport this trend simply by picking the most flattering colour to suit. Its appearance on the casual loose fit styles of the season like slouchy pants, long coats, boxy jumpers and the ever popular culottes also make this a trend fashionable, easy to wear and dare we say it… even comfy?

Far from the sickly sweet styles restricted for girly girls pastels, we have been given a sporty and sleek update this season, making them suitable for work, a weekend brunch and everything in between.

Pastels are a great way to add colour to an outfit for those who favour a more monochromatic palette – simply select one pastel coloured piece and pair it with neutrals. We love the casual look of a fresh mint sweater with loose fit white trousers and shirt as seen at Sportmax, and the chic and effortless combination of dusty pink high-waisted silk trousers and grey tank a la Jill Stuart.

For the fashion bold, an all-pastel ensemble is a truly striking look. The key here is layering and texture – take note from the styling of  Donna Karan, Michael Kors and Giorgio Armani. A cheeky flash of leg in cropped trousers or arm peeping from a sleeveless jacket is enough to balance the block colour out. Don’t be afraid to also experiment, with the combination of pastel and bolder patterns.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about this trend is how it manages to feminize even the most masculine inspired pieces, which is particularly handy given the sporty edge that runs through some of the loose fit shapes. Who will dare to challenge you when your tracksuit-esque outfit is in a gorgeously delicious salmon-pink coloured silk and finished off with an ever-practical pair of slides? No one! And the best part is that you don’t even have to wait for the warmer weather to wear what has been dubbed as the “it” shade of the season. Pastel-tastic, we say.

CANNES DO RIVIERA STYLE

Cannes; playground to the rich and glamorous, a veritable haven for European socialites and wealthy oil heirs who are required to do little more in life than top up their bronzed bodies on the deck of their parents yachts. The palm tree lined marina and mountainous panorama makes Cannes seem like the perfect setting for a glamorous television show (or a fantastic reality show –yes, we would be the first to tune into an episode of the Real Housewives Of Cannes) which is probably why the French Southern city was designated as the perfect location to host the worlds most glamorous film festival.
The prestigious Cannes Film Festival returns this week with a roster of A-Lister´s that have us salivating over the potential of having so many celebrities concentrated in one small area.
With the red carpet historically offering up a multitude of glamorous red carpet looks, we take a look back at some of our favourite Cannes styles and show you how to recreate the look for yourself.
Cara Delevigne Cannes 2013
Cara Delevigne
2013 was most definitely the year of Cara Delevigne, and after capturing the world’s heart with her unkempt brow and unnatural facial expressions, we were happy to see Cara take a more demure turn for the Cannes unveiling of The Great Gatsby movie. We haven’t quite worked out why Cara was actually at the event, but if Tara Reid can make an appearance then no one is going to turn away Cara. After spending the day hob-nobbing with the likes of Georgia May Jagger on Roberto Cavalli’s yacht , Cara made her Cannes debut in a black lace gown by Burberry accompanied by $100,000 worth of Chopard jewels that made her look every inch a true supermodel. Copy Cara’s red-carpet stealing style with the stunning Mavie gown by Tarik Ediz. The plunging neckline of the gown is accented with a crystal brooch that simply looks divine when paired with the Crystal Headlight necklace by Kenneth Jay Lane. Complete Cara’s Cannes style with Ophelia earrings by Dannijo and a smear of bright red lipstick to bring this show-stopping look to life.

Diane Kruger cannes 2014
Diane Kruger
We’re pretty sure that you could put Diane Kruger in a bin liner and she would make it look amazing, so it wasn’t a huge surprise that she stole the show at the 65th Cannes Film Festival dazzling the crowd in an ethereal Chanel gown in 2012. In a beautiful mint green that perfectly complimented her porcelain complexion, Diane went for subtlety when it came to her jewellery with simple Jaeger-LeCoultre earrings and a delicate bracelet. Try this look for yourself with the Catherine Deane, Owren gown in the same asymmetric style as Diane. Pair this diaphanous piece with the Phillipa earrings by Dannijo and swept back hair to create a red carpet look that would rival Diane’s natural glamour.
Ashwariya Rai Cannes 2011
Ashwariya Rai
Ashwariya Rai has long proven herself to be the queen of Cannes, astounding us every year with an array of stunning gowns. We love the beautifully intricate asymmetric gown Ashwariya wore to the opening ceremony of the 2011 edition of the competition at the Palais des Festivals. Cut in a flattering asymmetric fit with peplum detail this lace dress empasized Ashwariya’s statuesque silhouette. Recreate the look in theNotte by Marchesa, Carmen gown in a flattering latte tone this dress is perfect for black tie dressing. Accessorise this piece with the Dannijo Vaughn ring for some understated glamour.

AWARD WINNING NAILS

Long gone were the days where a breathtaking gown and a pair of amazing shoes were enough to complete a red carpet look; nail art has become the trendiest accessory in la-la land, and thank to E!’s fabulous mani-cam is possible to have a clear shot of what nail polish celebs are sporting. From complex nail art like the beautiful golden flowers Zooey Deschanel wore to match with her two-piece Oscar de la Renta outfit, to simple nude nails like the ones Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts opted for, nails have been on the spotlight this award season like never before.
Kelly Osbourne was inspired with the accolade painted on her nails.
Cute flowers were carefully drawn over Zooey Deschanel’s nails.
Amy Adams opts for one the season’s hottest trends: metallic nails.
Kayley Cuouco adds just a touch of bling to her SAG’s manicure.
Monica Potter matches her nails with her black and sparkly gold gown.

WHAT´S YOUR WAG STYLE?

Remember the 2006 World Cup? Victoria Beckham was Queen of the England WAGs, Cheryl Cole was her lady in waiting and Coleen Rooney, Alex Curran and Abbey Clancy were amongst those bringing up the rear. Famously banned from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa by then-England manager Fabio Capello, the WAGs are back and heading to Brazil, much to our delight.

While VB may have abdicated the throne and Cheryl no longer holds a WAG title, there are still plenty of worldwide WAGs to hold your tabloid interest over World Cup month, so even if you’re not that interested in the goings on on the pitch then you can at least delight in these stylishly elegant WAGs.
Shakira
Pop star and reality TV judge Shakira, has always had a rock chic edge to her style. We love how Shakira’s style has evolved since she the birth of her son with Spanish centre back Gerard Pique from sexed up grunge to a more relaxed earth mother look.
Jourdan Dunn
The rumoured girlfriend of English striker Daniel Sturridge needs to introduction to the fashion world having strutted her stuff on the runway for the likes of Gaultier, Louis Vuitton and Valentino. Yet when she’s not jetting from London to Milan Jourdan is often seen donning uber relaxed sportswear and oversized jumpers that give a new meaning to the phrase “street chic”.
Irina Shayk
Victoria’s Secret Model and all round beautiful person Irina Shayk will be seen in the stand this world cup supporting her Portuguese beau the former worlds most expensive player Christiano Ronaldo. When she’s not cheering on Ronaldo, Shayk is often seen showing off her killer figure classic tailoring with a modern twist. A lover of clean and sleek lines Irina’s style is comparable to our favourite WAG Victoria Beckham.
Sara Carbonero
You may not of heard of her but he on the look out for this Spanish beauty when she’s reporting on the World Cup this year. The sports reporter and girlfriend of Spanish goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillias is somewhat of style icon renowned for her feminine take on off duty dressing.
